"Apple's design guru Jony Ive knighted in New Year Honours"

Jonathan Ive has been made a Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE).

He was born in Chingford in Essex in 1967 to a silversmith father, and joined Apple in 1992.

Computer Business Review calls Ive:

The creative genius behind the design of Apple's iconic iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad range of products.

. . .His minimalist designs have been an integral part of Apple's renaissance since founder and CEO Steve Jobs returned to the company in 1996.

He was close to Jobs, who died in October last year. According to Walter Isaacson's biography of the Apple boss, Jobs called Ive his "spiritual partner", although the latter was apparently frustrated that Jobs would often take credit for products that came from the design team.

. . .Ive told the BBC that he was "both humbled and sincerely grateful" he had received the honour. "I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making."

Congratulations to Jony Ive.

The beautiful spareness of design which he employs can be found all over Britain. I'm thinking especially of breathtakingly lovely and simple wrought iron, which I've seen in a local parish church.

Hi Catherine and David!
Just read Cat's comments on "breathtakingly lovely &simple wrought iron seen in a local parish church" and I wondered if you were referring to the beautiful church gates at All Saints, Compton which were donated by the family in memory of my dear late parents?
