A word about men

In 2001 Nobel Prize-winner Doris Lessing added a word about men, who were depicted unfavourably in her breakthrough work The Golden Notebook. Though it comes a bit late, it's welcome -

Lessing called modern women far too quick to "denigrate" men.

In my experience this is true. I think it's also true that modern life in the West does little to call out the qualities of courage, fortitude and daring goodness possessed by men.

Neville Duke was a man who did inspire. A highly decorated World War II pilot who broke speed records after the war, his care for his wife was touching. A Service of Thanksgiving for him was held at St Clement Danes Church in London yesterday.
