The Barbour

Image: Barbour

Taking the Long Island railroad to New York a few years ago, I saw a number of stockbrokers sporting Barbours, and thought Britain's rural jacket might be growing too popular for its own good.

Apparently something similar has happened in Britain. Fashion icons who like to go to the country for rock concerts donned the waxed jacket in torrential summer rains, and Barbour sales took off.

A Barbour will keep you warm and dry, as I learned one cold night when reduced to sleeping in mine. I am fond of that old thing. The Englishman in the castle says put your new one in the Labrador's basket for a week so it's properly broken in.
