Brits abroad

David comments below on the real pressure of immigration to Britain on green land. There has also been a reverse trend. The Times reports that "A study by the Institute for Public Policy Research, to be published this week, calculates that more than 3.3m British pensioners will make their home abroad by the middle of the century."

Presumably their votes go with them.

The most popular destinations are first Australia, then Spain, the United States, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. Aside from Spain, ex-pats seem to be choosing countries with close associations with Britain.

The country they leave behind is very beautiful, as this photo of Wells Cathedral by Beautiful Britain suggests. We would be very interested in hearing about their new experiences.
